Slow Journey to Alemany Farm
Saturday, August 30 | 11:30am – 5:00pm | FREE
Hosted by Alemany Farm.
Promotional description:
Alemany Farm invites Slow Food Nation visitors to tour a four-acre organic fruit and vegetable farm that is San Francisco’s largest food production site.
At 11:30am, there will be a one-hour farm tour showing off the late-summer crops, explaining some of the basic principles of sustainable agriculture and addressing the unique rewards and challenges of farming in the concrete jungle.
After the tour, visitors will gather for a potluck lunch: please bring something to share! The farm will provide a cucumber salad from cucumbers harvested that morning. Visitors are then invited to stick around for the farm’s regularly scheduled volunteer workday.
Maps and directions are available at www.alemanyfarm.org. No need to RSVP, but guests should wear comfortable shoes and layered clothing and bring a hat and water bottle.
Alemany Farm empowers San Francisco residents to grow their own food, and through that process encourages people to become more engaged with their communities. The Farm provides organic food and green jobs for low-income communities, while sowing the seeds for economic and environmental justice. Alemany Farm is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
