RODALE ANNOUNCES SPONSORSHIP OF SLOW FOOD NATION

IN SAN FRANCISCO OVER LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2008

Publisher to Produce Forthcoming Purveyor Book “Come to the Table: The Slow Food Way of Living” with foreword by Alice Waters

New York, NY (June 4, 2008) — Rodale, a global multi-platform media company with a mission dedicated to the health and wellness of the individual, community and planet, announced today its leadership role as Publications Sponsor of Slow Food Nation, the largest celebration of American food in history, to be held in San Francisco during Labor Day Weekend from August 29 through September 1, 2008.  Rodale is a major sponsor of the Slow Food Nation event, brainchild of renowned chef Alice Waters, and will publish a book about American Purveyors, with an introduction by Waters.

“Farmers hold the key to solving our global climate and health issues.  We are honored to support this unprecedented event celebrating American food and its role in improving the health of our people and the planet, ” said Maria Rodale, Chairman of Rodale.

An unprecedented event, Slow Food Nation will bring together tens of thousands to experience an extraordinary range of activities highlighting the connection between plate and planet. Participants will taste delicious food at a 50,000 square foot pavilion; meet farmers and producers at a marketplace surrounding a 10,000 square foot newly-planted urban garden in the heart of the City; learn from visionary speakers who will offer solutions; and engage in political discourse to shape a more sustainable food system.

“We are excited to partner with Rodale for our inaugural event,” said Anya Fernald, Executive Director of Slow Food Nation. “Rodale has been a leader in the organic and environmental movement for nearly seventy years and is a perfect fit in supporting our common goals of creating a healthy and sustainable food system.”

RODALE PARTNERS WITH ALICE WATERS TO PUBLISH COMPANION BOOK

Rodale will also publish a book about American farmers with a foreword by Alice Waters, entitled “Come to the Table: The Slow Food Way of Living” to coincide with Slow Food Nation.

Come to the Table is an inviting introduction to the slow food movement that helps the reader connect with the people who keep the farm-to-table tradition alive. Slow Food Nation Board President Katrina Heron, Anya Fernald and others tell the story of twelve separate meals, each hosted by an artisan or farmer family in the California countryside, where the majority of America’s fresh foods are produced.  Fans of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle will enjoy this book for its combination of stories with recipes.

Rodale publications will be on-sale at Slow Food Nation.
